A VR version of Space Invaders

Invaders! has you playing a VR version of the classic Space Invaders game, but you are shooting forwards and hiding behind guard-shield areas while the aliens shoot back at you.

A simple take on a very classic game

There are many different versions of Space Invaders because many different people have tried to improve it over the years and jazz it up. Invaders! is a game that takes the most basic version of Space Invaders, and sets it within a VR world. The aliens, the guard barrier, and even the bullets are not in 3D, they are in 2D, but the shatter effects have a three-dimensional spread as they are hit. Invaders! is yet more proof that we have not yet hit the VR Renaissance where games like GTA 2 turn into GTA San Andreas.

It is more exciting than Space Invaders

If you have played the original version of Space Invaders, and even if you have played the jazzed-up versions, then even you must admit that the game gets boring. In a world where a game of chess has become Battle Brothers and where an RPG has gone from 2D Zelda to the glory that is the newer Final Fantasy games, you have to admit that Space Invaders is a little dull. The novelty of shooting Space Invaders in a VR world is the only feature worth experiencing in this Invaders! game. In the end, it is going to become as repetitive and boring as the original.

PROS

  • Destruction effects are cheap
  • but look fancy
  • It is an original take on the Space Invaders game

CONS

  • The aliens are 2D targets and are not 3D
  • It becomes boring and repetitive very quickly
